Film Screening: "Talking Black in America"

There will be a screening of the documentary "Talking Black in America" at the Athens-Clarke County Library in the Jon and Virginia Appleton Auditorium. The documentary talks about the formation and history of African American Language in the United States, as well as the functions it serves in the community. Linguistics Assistant Professor, Dr. Jon Forrest will be giving a short introduction and co-hosting a Q&A with Dr. Barbara McCaskill from the Department of English after the screening.

Fall 2019 Final Project Poster Conference

The Department of Linguistics held a Final Project Poster Conference on December 4th, 2019 from 1:00pm - 4:00pm at the Georgia Center. Students from our Field Methods, Natural Language Processing, and Text & Corpus classes presented their final project posters. Over 40 different posters were presented on a variety of topics by undergraduate and graduate students. Please take a look at our picture gallery below.

University of Georgia Linguistics Faculty and Graduate Students will be presenting at the 178th Meeting of the Acoustical Society of America, in San Diego, California, December 2-6, 2019.

Dr. Margaret Renwick with Yanming Shi and Fred Maier of UGA's Institute for Artificial Intelligence: "Improved Vowel Labeling for Prenasal Merger Using Customized Forced Alignment."

Betsy Miller served as student panelist at the ICAI Southeast Conference

Linguistics Ph.D. Student, Betsy Miller, recently represented UGA’s Office of Instruction as a student panelist at the Southeast Regional Conference for the International Center for Academic Integrity held at Emory University October 25-26, 2019.  She was commended for representing the department with insightful comments about her experiences serving as academic honesty student panelist.
