One of our Ph.D. students, Keiko Bridwell, was recently featured in the UGA Today article “Speaking of Home.”

The article focuses on Keiko and her research in the Athens and nearby Oconee County area, examining how speech patterns vary across communities and how those differences can reflect a sense of place and belonging. Through analyzing the acoustic properties of vowels spoken by local residents, she shows how what it means to be a local Georgian can shift even within just a few miles.

We are proud to see Keiko’s work recognized and shared with all of UGA!
