Our department is proud to celebrate students Bryce Knoll and Zane Sylvester for being selected as 2026 Boren Scholars! They join 16 other students as part of the University of Georgia's record-breaking cohort of Boren Award recipients. This achievement helped UGA earn recognition as the nation's top-performing institution for Boren Awards for the sixth consecutive year. Bryce Knoll, an Honors student and Foundation Fellow, is pursuing majors in Russian, Linguistics, and Spanish. Zane Sylvester, an Honors student, is majoring in Russian and Mathematics with a minor in Linguistics. Both students received Boren Scholarships to participate in a capstone year program in Kazakhstan, where they will study Russian and complete a professional internship. The Boren Scholarship is a nationally competitive award that supports students studying languages critical to U.S. interests while preparing for careers in federal service. Recipients receive funding for intensive overseas language study and commit to at least one year of federal service after graduation. Congratulations to Bryce and Zane on this outstanding accomplishment!
