Professor Tianming Liu is presenting an invited talk by video to SUNY Albany. 

UGA Linguistics faculty members Dr. Margaret Renwick and Dr. Jon Forrest were featured in this week's Columns article, discussing the rapid decline of the Georgia accent among younger generations. 

The UGA Linguistics department congratulates Zahin Hoque on his receipt of a research award from UGA CURO (Center for Undergraduate Research Opportunities). Only 500 of UGA’s 30,000 undergraduate students are awarded the $1,000 scholarship. Awardees will actively engage in faculty-facilitated research, and all recipients are strongly encouraged to present their work at UGA’s spring CURO Symposium. 

This month, the Linguistics department recognizes Meg Fletcher for our DEI Spotlight feature.

Meg returned this month from an eight-week Zulu language program in South Africa. The program included Monday-Friday Zulu lessons, travel to Johannesburg, Richard's Bay, and Durban, and various cultural events across South Africa. 

This summer, Ph.D. student Meg Fletcher participated in a once-in-a-lifetime adventure to study Zulu in South Africa for 8 weeks. 

The HUMANITIES@WORK speaker event will highlight four folks with careers at UGA who started out as humanities majors. This panel will take place on Wednesday, October 11th at 3 p.m. in the Park Hall Auditorium (room 265). This free event is the first in a series that will take place every October.
